This edition contains vol 1 & 2 bound together. 1773. 1st ed. 12mo. Leather spine and edged boards with original marbled front and back boards. New spine and gilt titles, book has been conserved. Small mark on inside cover, other than very tiny areas of spotting text is very good through-out. Owner’s signature John Cowling (1857) on first title page. Charming engraving of famous scholars entering a Roman Temple op title page.

The book details how philosophers of all era would look at various philosophical problems from the different ages of man can be discussed. With chapters entitled Osiris and Isis (from Roman writings) to more modern works, book is in English. A rare First edition.
