After 37 years of deep engagement in the history of the Middle East, particularly focusing on Egypt, this year’s catalogue adopts a different approach. In addition to our traditional offerings, we are pleased to present one of my long-standing interests: Lord Nelson and the Age of Fighting Sail.
The fascination with this era is vividly portrayed in popular culture through Hollywood blockbusters like Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as in period TV dramas such as Bridgerton. At the centre of this era stands Lord Nelson, a figure marked by brilliance, complexity, courage, and contradiction, a hero but also a flawed man whose humanity which appeals to us today.
