This edition contains vol 1 & 2 bound together. 1773. 1st ed. 12mo. Leather spine and edged boards with original marbled front and back boards. New spine and gilt titles, book has been conserved. Small mark on inside cover, other than very tiny areas of spotting text is very good through-out. Owner’s signature John Cowling (1857) on first title page. Charming engraving of famous scholars entering a Roman Temple op title page.

B Dod. J Ward and M Cooper. In two parts in one volume. Buffalo boards with raised bands on spine, etched in gilt, with jewels and gilt title. Covers in very good condition, marbled enedpapers with attendat ex Libri attached…Admiral Sir Thomas Cochrane GCB., left op marbled board opposite Rovert. J. Hayhurts. Alex R Inglis of Murostoun, glued to back of title pages. Alex Inglis was an ancestor of (Great-Grandfather?) of the Admiral, so this book later had the Admirals ex libris added. No doubt it was a greatly treasured artefact in the Admirals family. Robert James Hayhurst (1929-2016) was a Lancastrian chemist, retail pharmacist and a notiable bibliophile from whose collection this volume came into our hands.

Op title page is a very good portrait of George II, King of Great Britain, some light creases in these pages and a dedication to the King by the author. In excellent condition the book covers the history of Great Britain a list of all peers, laws, compainies etc. A very useful book for historians and a wonderful source text with important provenance.
